Tents are our homes that we carry on our backs. Tents not only create an environment free from other entities in nature and protect us from weather conditions, but also create a peaceful and safe indoor environment in regions we have never known. Sometimes tents are like a small island where you can take shelter while escaping from the storm.
Well, do you know what kind of tent you should keep with you while going out into nature?

Tents have various features according to their shapes, intended use and the type of material they are made of.
Today's modern tents; It consists of outer awning, inner awning and flexible poles. The inner awning is produced from a fabric that is breathable, that is, it helps to remove the water vapor that spreads from the respiratory tract and our body, but also prevents the loss of heat from the body. The base of the inner awning is usually made of a thick, waterproof fabric compared to the outer awning. The bases of modern tents are designed in the form of a bathtub not to let in the surface water in rainy weather. The outer awning is made of water, windproof and water-repellent coating, resistant to tearing and preventing further growth of the tear in possible tears.

The water resistance of the outer awning and the base of the inner awning in TentArts fabrics is given in millimeters of water column. However, it should not be forgotten that these values will decrease over time and depending on your usage.

Some tents are installed by first installing the inner awning and then stretching the outer awning over the inner awning, while in some tents the inner awning is connected to the outer awning, so it can be installed with a single installation. This feature stands out as an advantage especially in installations made under heavy rainfall. Single set up tents are generally preferred in Europe and our country.

One of the important elements of tents is the pillars that make up the framework of the tent. The poles, which were in a rigid (non-stretch, fixed) structure in the past, are now flexible and flexible, and thus tents can be made resistant to strong winds and even storms.

Fiberglass and special alloy aluminum are used as pole material. While fiberglass is mostly used in camping tents and economic models, aluminum is used in tents that require more strength, lightness and reliability. The aluminum used in tent bars is not pure aluminum, but an aluminum with additives and a series of heat treatments and is produced to make tent bars.
Tent rods are designed in the form of tubes and in such a way that they can pass into each other from the joints. Inside the tubular rods there is a rubber that holds the rods together. Thanks to this rubber, the rods can be assembled in a very short time and without any problems.

Tent Types According to the Material Used

Bristle Tents

The hair tent type that we see in Central Asia and Anatolia is made of sackcloth or felt and used for shelter.

Cloth Tents

It is a type of tent especially used for military purposes and made of cloth material.

Plastic Tents

These are the most common types of tents made of plastic-derived materials.

Tent Types According To Their Shapes

Triangle Tents (Ridge Tents)

As the name suggests, they are tent types with a triangular design. Rather, they are suitable for daily activities such as concerts and festivals in summer.

Dome Tents

Dome tents are one of the most preferred tent types for reasons such as being more resistant to wind, not accumulating snow on them, providing ease of entry and exit thanks to their large internal volume and doors, and easy installation.

Geodesic Tents

Geodetic literally refers to the shortest distance between two points on a sphere surface. In tents, it is the type of tent where more than one pole crosses the surface and joins to form triangles. This pole shape reduces the pressure on the structure and provides the most resistant type of tent to difficult wind and weather conditions.

Automatic Tents

These tent types are formed by permanently attaching the long and curved frame to the tent fabric. When this mechanism is activated by pulling upwards, the tent is set up automatically. However, it is not suitable for use in windy weather.

Tunnel Tents

They are the types of triangle tents that have been developed and have more internal volume. These tents, especially used by professional mountaineers, are extremely resistant to wind.

When purchasing a tent, we must first be able to answer some questions.

  • In what climatic condition and how often will you use the tent?
  • Do you have a chance to reach the point where you will camp or does it involve a little walking distance?
  • How many people would you like the tent to accommodate under normal circumstances?
The answers to these and similar questions will reveal what kind of tent we need. A tent that can provide comfort in very harsh conditions may be a tent that is actually too heavy and too expensive for your event. The way to avoid making mistakes begins with the determination of our needs.
